Objectives
Alba is issued from the merger in 2009 of the not-for-profit organizations Oikoten and Bas!. Alba's objectives are:
- to help youngsters in difficulties by organizing hikings and work projects, time-out projects ...
- to organize mediations between juvenile delinquents and their victims as well as workshops for parents.
Activities
- Hikings and work projects: inside Alba, Oikoten organizes this activities for youngsters between the age of 16 and 18 who are placed in institutions. Oikoten is aimed at youngsters who find themselves in extreme difficult situations. Most of these kids have used up most of the options the Belgian care system has to offer, and are staying in a community institution without prospects. The hikings last three to four months and take the kids from the centre of France to Santiago de Compostela in the North West of Spain. The work projects last four months and are located in the French Pyrenees, where the youngsters stay with local farmers.
- Time-out project Tool: this project is set up for youngsters between 12 and 20 years old who live in institutions in the province of Flemish Brabant or in Brussels. This project offers them the possibility to make a hike for a week (mostly in the Ardens) with a guide or to work for a farmer. Tool supports time-out exchanges between 24 institutions in the region. The time-out out of the institution can be a solution when a crisis occurs that jeopardizes the guidance in the institution.
- Re-mediations: within the Leuven and the Brussels judicial districts, the Mediation Services organize re-mediations between juvenile delinquents and their victims. The objective is to bring the conflict back to the two parties involved, the delinquent and the victim, and to offer a frame to search together for a solution.
- Workshops for parents Boog: in 2007, Bas! and Oikoten started with the organization of workshops for parents in Flemish Brabant and Brussels. The project Boog aims to guide parents who do not want or cannot any longer take on their parental responsibility for their minor son or daughter, when they commit a criminal act.
- Project Biez: in the village Biez-Sart in Walloon Brabant, Alba owns a farm with a camp site. The accommodation can be used by institutions for camping or activities focused on experiencing. Alba puts mountain bikes, ropes courses, kayaks at disposal. |
