Financial and moral support for long term projects in favour of children in the Third WorldObjective
Kinderleven/Vie d'Enfant helps children in the Third World by supporting a variety of projects. The organization works exclusively with volunteers and restricts overheads to a minimum. Every single euro that is given to the organization goes directly to the projects.
Some projects
Brazil - Coronel Fabriciano: village for abandoned children with a 24 hours open emergency centre. They welcome children who live in dangerous situations. After school activities for 6 to 14 year-olds. The organization Criancas do Mundo was set up in 1987 by two Belgian volunteers who work on site, Michel and Evelyne van der Meersch. Burundi: support to children with aids (supervision and direct aid). 154 children are fed every day. Sister Agnes Charles' charity : 'La famille pour vaincre le sida' (the family to overcome aids).
RD Congo
- Likasi: centre for physically handicapped children comprising a primary school, a professional school, an orphanage, a dispensary, and a re-education centre. The work of this centre is carried out by Congolese nuns.
- Bukavu: cover of medical and hospital expenses for children without means and victims of malnutrition. This project is followed up by Professors Vincent and Moulin.
- Kivu: support to projects of Sister Jeanne Pati. Rebuilding of a school and providing of school equipment. Aid to widows to buy seeds and to hire fields. Schooling of children with deaf and dumb children.
Nicaragua - Inijamba: a welcome centre for street children living in extremely dangerous conditions: drugs, crime, prostitution, ... This centre was set up by a Belgian, Olivier Sebrechts.
Tibet: support to the activities of Françoise Matthieu: prevention of the Kashin-Beck disease, also known as 'Big Bone Disease', a disabling disease of the bones and joints that leads to stunted growth and deformity of the joints.
Togo: support to the organization ANGE (Amis pour une Nouvelle Génération des Enfants), whose aim is to help streetchildren and child prisoners.
Zambia: scholarships under the guidance of Sybille du Parc Locmaria.
