Publication on donorinfo.be PDF Print Email

In order to be published on donorinfo.be, a charity is required to:

  • in essence provide aid to people in need
  • be established in Belgium and have an enterprise number
  • rely on contributions from private persons and/or enterprises
  • be willing to provide information on its annual accounts in a transparent way*
  • agree to publishing the draft proposal by Donorinfo
  • agree to install  a link to donorinfo.be on its website

*Audit report

Donorinfo’s policy is that each organization provides a copy of its audit report by a company auditor, save for charities with proceeds of less than 6250000 €. In this case an audit report by a chartered accountant, member of the IEC-IAB or an accountant, member of the ICPF-BIBF, is sufficient.

If your charity does not have a company auditor/chartered accountant/accountant, Donorinfo may decide to carry the cost of such an audit, unless the proceeds of your organization exceed the sum of 600 000 €. Please note that, due to the increasing number of applicants, Donorinfo will submit your request to re-evaluation yearly.

A website as main tool

Any charity that applies for publication, can receive a file published on donorinfo.be, provided it meets the criteria below. This file presents an overview of activities, core business and financial data, and pie charts of the charity. All information is trilingual: Dutch, French and English.

Every file contains two pages, the first of which presents general and comprehensive information such as:

  • address and telephone numbers, management, date of setting up, newsletter, account number(s), whether or not a fiscal certificate can be delivered;
  • content information concerning objectives, working, activity and projects, needs.

The second page of the file presents financial information:

  • information on the financial means over the accounting year and how they were spent;
  • confirmation that the annual accounts were audited by a company auditor or chartered accountant.

The files are drafted and updated regularly in close collaboration with the charities and can be removed at any time upon written request by the charity or by Donorinfo in case the requested information fails to be delivered.

Free service

In order to preserve a total independence, the foundation Donorinfo has decided to remain self-supporting. The foundation does not apply for subsidies nor does it accept donations or sponsoring. Charities need not apply for membership nor contribute a membership fee. All costs related to the service, such as draft of proposal, processing of financial data, translation, are carried by Donorinfo and are free of charge.

Advantages to be published on donorinfo.be

  • By publishing transparent, objective and reliable information, Donorinfo wishes to provide a guarantee for ‘giving with confidence’. In this way, the foundation hopes it will be able to induce an increase of the total amount of donations to charities.
  • Donorinfo actively promotes its website with a broad public. For instance, notaries receive the folder and can order free copies of the printed version of the website.
  • Potential donors can search in the database for a charity that meets their personal requirements using a variety of search keys. Donorinfo does not make a selection and does not attribute any kind of quality label. Therefore, all information is unbiased.
  • Publication on donorinfo.be is entirely free of charge. In this way Donorinfo creates the opportunity for all charities to be published, while at the same time endorsing values such as diversity and pluralism.
  • On a longer term, Donorinfo would also like to encourage charities to combine forces more often, e.g. by working together systematically or on projects.
  • Donorinfo moreover wants to co-operate in a more positive way with other organizations, e.g. on increasing awareness concerning consistent financial reporting. A greater transparency stimulates confidence with donors and public.
